The Seasons : ZICO’s Artist (KBS 2TV)
Kwag Jayeon: ZICO who leaped to the top of the major music charts with his new song “SPOT! (feat. JENNIE)” has now debuted as a talk show host. He is hosting an all new season of The Seasons entitled ZICO’s Artist that followed its predecessors Jay Park’s Drive, Choi Jung-hoon’s Night Park, Long Day, Long Night with AKMU, and the latest Lee Hyo-ri’s Red Carpet.
When ZICO appeared on the YouTube show “The K-Star Next Door” on April 30, he said, “Do I look like a well-seasoned artist? I’m still pretty young, you know” looking a bit upset. Perhaps it’s because he seems to have mastered many things despite his young age. He has already built quite a career as a musician and producer, and now, he is a newbie host on ZICO’s Artist. He sang his song “Artist” which also happens to be the title of his show as he walked up on stage for the first time, and announced, “I’ve become a host” in a quivering voice. He said that he is “very excited to play host to my namesake show” on a KBS music talk show which was his “dream stage.” He also confessed that the staff asked him to correct the way he held his microphone, but that he forgot because he was so nervous as he hastily corrected his grip from wrapping his palm and fingers around the head in a typical rapper’s hold. Rain, one of the guest appearances, expressed his surprise: “I’ve never seen him nervous before. He looked really nervous when I first got here.” But just like Choiza of Dynamic Duo who was another guest on the show mentioned, “ZICO is a fast learner” and “we might not be able to see him like this again.” The all-round rapper and producer has debuted as a television show host. ZICO’s growth journey in taking up yet another role is one more reason to watch ZICO’s Artist.

Late Night with the Devil
Jeong Seohui (Cinema Journalist): If you’re looking for a strong dose of horror, then this movie might not be the one to hit the spot. There are no jump scares on Late Night with the Devil. This found-footage film presents a video of one of the worst incidents in broadcasting history and a series of behind-the-scenes footage that were filmed in 1977 when the occult genre was seeing a huge boom in the U.S. And now, these videos have been “discovered” 47 years later. The show host Jack Delroy (David Dastmalchian) who is sick of being second best, and his staff need one big story to reel in the ratings to make it to the top at last. And so, Jack cooks up the “Halloween special” Night Owls show that was to be aired the eve of Halloween. Christou the psychic (Fayssal Bazzi), Carmichael Haig (Ian Bliss) who is skeptical about all things paranormal, Lilly (Ingrid Torelli) the sole survivor of a mass suicide incident of a devil-worshiping cult, and June (Laura Gordon) the parapsychologist and writer of the book entitled Conversations with the Devil are invited onto the show. The scene where Lilly becomes possessed by the devil isn’t the highlight of the film. No, it is too predictable. Instead, the film really starts to take off from the latter half when it turns from horror to a reportage. The mysterious link between the secret club “Grove” that Jack and many wealthy and powerful men are a member of, and the death of Jack’s wife Madeleine Piper (Georgina Haig) who suffered from lung cancer despite not having smoked. How show-biz, which is all about higher ratings, works. The mirage of success. The soulless face of a man who finally realized what he was willing to give up, sacrifice, and run into debt for. It seems that there are only a few television shows that can give us a better glimpse of reality than this.
