Ariana Grande made a triumphant return to the top of the chart as her 2024 album “eternal sunshine” jumped all the way up from No. 87 the previous week thanks to the release of “eternal sunshine deluxe: brighter days ahead,” which adds six new tracks. The deluxe release returned the album to No. 1 a full year and two weeks after the original album spent two weeks at the top when it was first released back in March 2024. This marks the longest gap for a return to the top this year since SZA’s album “SOS” did the same with its deluxe edition, “LANA,” 22 months after the original.

“eternal sunshine” moved 137,000 units during the week, more than a tenfold increase from the week prior. Streaming surged to 98 million, six times as much as the previous week, contributing 75,000 units. The album returned to the Top Streaming Albums chart at No. 2. Album sales reached 61,000 copies, putting it at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. Grande’s also released three digital versions exclusive to her website. In addition to the normal, 19-track digital version, she also produced an instrumental version and an a capella version. The recent trend when it comes to digital albums has been to shift away from offering one or two bonus tracks and instead provide alternative versions of every existing track. The physical album was released in two vinyl versions and six CD options. All six new songs from the deluxe edition entered the Hot 100 between No. 18 and No. 59. Grande, meanwhile, was No. 1 on the Artist 100 chart.

Playboi Carti’s album “MUSIC” dropped to No. 2 after two weeks at No. 1, moving 91,000 units for the week. It remained No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart for a third consecutive week. Lil Durk’s new album “Deep Thoughts” debuted at No. 3, marking his seventh Top 10 hit. Durk’s album moved 64,000 units this week, primarily in the form of 85 million streams, placing it at No. 3 on the Top Streaming Albums chart. The rest of the top performers shifted down one spot from last week’s rankings: No. 4 is Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX,” No. 5 is PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake’s “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U,” No. 6 is SZA’s “SOS,” and No. 7 is Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet.”

Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s duet “luther” held onto No. 1 for a seventh week. Among recent rap songs, it’s catching up with the 11 weeks set by Roddy Ricch’s song “The Box” in 2020 and the eight weeks enjoyed by 24kGoldn and iann dior’s “Mood.” “luther” was leading in streams and airplay, but was No. 21 in digital sales. Despite an overall decline in streams, it still managed to rack up 24 million, which was enough to put it at No.1 on Streaming Songs for a sixth week. On radio, the song overtook “Die With a Smile” to claim the No. 1 spot for the first time. This is Lamar’s third No. 1, but his first where he’s the main artist. His earlier chart-toppers were as a featured artist on “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift and “Don’t Wanna Know” by Maroon 5. For SZA, it’s her second No. 1, following “Snooze.” “luther” is notably the first song this year to top both the streaming and radio charts, and the first rap song to do so since Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” in late 2023.

Drake’s single “NOKIA” surged from No. 7 the previous week to No. 3. Following the release of the music video on March 31, streaming, radio play, and sales all increased. It climbed to No. 2 on both the Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales charts, and debuted at No. 44 on Radio Songs. “NOKIA” became Drake’s 42nd Top 5 hit, outpacing Swift’s list of 36 and the Beatles’ 29. Drake also has 31 Top 3 songs to his name, another record.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ duet “Die With a Smile” held steady at No. 2. It hit No. 5 on Streaming Songs and No. 2 on Radio Songs. Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” was No. 4, marking its 40th week at No. 1 on the Top Country Songs chart. That also means “Bar Song” is on track to challenge the 50-week record held by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line’s song “Meant to Be.” “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan remained at No. 5, while ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” climbed from No. 10 to No. 7.

Coachella is back, taking place over the April 11–13 and April 18–20 weekends. This year’s star-studded lineup is impressive, but as with any gathering of a global community of artists, it hasn’t come without its own challenges, such as last-minute cancellations by FKA twigs—who was set to return to the desert after a decade with her award-worthy album “EUSEXUA”—and the celebrated Brazilian pop star Anitta, due to personal reasons.

However, just one week before the festival, two surprise names were added to the lineup: Weezer and Ed Sheeran. Weezer performed the first Saturday, while Sheeran’s set to take the stage this upcoming Saturday. Sheeran is currently performing shows for his “+–=÷× Tour,” aka “The Mathematics Tour.” The name is a nod to his last five albums: “+” (2011), “x” (2014), “÷” (2017), “=” (2021), and “–” (2023). Incidentally, Sheeran wrapped the Chinese leg of the tour earlier this year at the end of February and is on a break before heading to Europe in May.

The same weekend his upcoming Coachella performance was announced, Sheeran released “Azizam,” the lead single for his forthcoming album. The title means “my dear” in Persian. For anyone wondering what he’s going to name his next album now that his math series is finished, wonder no further: Currently titled “Play,” Sheeran’s upcoming release is expected to drop after “The Mathematics Tour” concludes in September (and people are already joking that this album will be followed up by “Stop” and “Pause”).

“Azizam” is gaining a lot of momentum where streaming is concerned, with projections suggesting it could land on the Hot 100 next week. If so, it would be his first Hot 100 hit since “Life Goes On” (feat. Luke Combs) two years ago. Given Sheeran’s in the middle of a tour, expect the sharpened performance of a seasoned pro at Coachella, where he may also preview more new tracks from “Play.” The festival’s second weekend certainly won’t be a mere repeat of the first.

ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ duet “APT.” is now in its 24th week on the Hot 100, currently at No. 7. It’s spent 14 of those weeks in the Top 10, a record for an individual K-pop singer. The song is No. 18 on Streaming Songs, No. 10 on Digital Song Sales, and No. 11 on Radio Songs. ROSÉ’s album “rosie” has been on the Billboard 200 for 17 weeks and is currently at No. 74. The BLACKPINK member is No. 61 on the Artist 100.

JENNIE’s album “Ruby” is No. 53 on the Billboard 200 and No. 28 on Top Album Sales. The singer is No. 79 on the Artist 100.

j-hope’s single “MONA LISA” is No. 8 on Digital Song Sales, while the BTS member is No. 97 on the Artist 100.

LE SSERAFIM’s EP “HOT” is No. 16 on Top Album Sales. The group is No. 83 on the Artist 100.

“HOP” by Stray Kids is No. 14 on Top Album Sales. Stray Kids themselves are No. 64 on the Artist 100.

ENHYPEN’s “ROMANCE: UNTOLD” is No. 29 in album sales.

On the Emerging Artists chart, JISOO is No. 19, NMIXX is No. 30, and ILLIT is No. 48.

Here’s how K-pop is doing on the whole.
