“memeM” (PURPLE KISS)
Park Ji Eun: Our new single, “memeM,” is a catchy song, one that sticks in your head the more you listen to it. I think it does a good job of showing the intense and powerful vibe that PURPLE KISS has. One of the memorable highlights of the dance comes during the “in your head, I go Mem Mem Mem” part, so I hope you all pay attention to that part!
Na Go Eun: The strong sound and beat in “memeM” is mesmerizing and there is the stand-out, repeated choreography that goes along with the repeating “in your head, I go Mem Mem Mem” chorus! Everything about this song is catchy, right down to the so-called “flick yourself in the head dance.”
Dosie: PURPLE KISS is showing off a whole new feeling with “memeM,” the lead single. The strong music, performance and our vocals all work together so well—it is unbeatable! I think you will be able to sense how powerful our vibe is. One special thing about this album is we made an in-universe story film for it. People should find the song more immersive and be able to pick out the interesting parts better if they listen to it after watching the story film!
Ireh: I think “memeM” could be the most intense song we have ever done. It captures the strong spirit of PURPLE KISS, and I remember I was a little surprised by the unexpected way it unfolds when I first heard it. But I think that way it unfolds makes it really charming and fun to listen to, even if it’s not very long. Plus, all that intensity and charm means there is a lot to show off when we are on stage, so I think that is why I feel like I cannot wait to perform it whenever I hear the song. If you do watch the performance, our top-notch dancing will get stuck in your head, too!
Yuki: Our new lead single, “memeM”—of all the songs we have done so far, I think this is our catchiest and most intense. People will be able to tell how different it is from “Ponzona,” the single for our first mini album, and “Zombie,” the single off our second one. I also hope people pay attention to the part that goes, “in your head, I go Mem Mem Mem,” the most. Our song will make your head swirl, just like the lyrics say!
Chaein: In my opinion, more than anything else, “memeM” is super catchy. I think the memorable move we repeat throughout the choreography really shows what makes us special, so you will be thinking about it again and again once you see it. I think the choreo once again shows what makes us unique. We worked hard to make a song that was not just something we could do, but something only PURPLE KISS could do! I hope you enjoy this experience with us, too. ☺️
SWAN: Following on “Ponzona” and “Zombie” and the witch concept, “memeM,” our third lead single, once again deepens what makes PURPLE KISS so attractive. It is sure to get stuck in your head.
“Pretty Psycho” (PURPLE KISS)
Park Ji Eun: We showed a little bit of “Pretty Psycho” in the intro performance for our second mini album, HIDE & SEEK, but this time it is included as a full track. I did my best with the unique lyrics and the performance, which goes with them well. The song is charming and highly expressive overall, and I feel like I focused on keeping the mood up when we recorded the vocals, too!
Na Go Eun: The track “Pretty Psycho” captures PURPLE KISS’ boldness to do whatever we want and our mystical quality so I am pretty sure it will develop a fan following! The “pretty psycho” concept is an unusual one, and the lyrics are bold, so I hope people like this song a lot, too, even though it is not a single!
Dosie: Every PURPLE KISS album has an intro performance, but PLORY was pretty disappointed that “Intro: Freaky Purky” from the last album was not a full song, right? I think this track, “Pretty Psycho,” will put that disappointment to rest! The lyrics and the performance show off the distinct appeal of PURPLE KISS and it gets better every time I listen to it. The lyrics are full of unique expressions, like, “I’m a bad idol,” “I do what I want” and “I’m gonna break bad,” so I practiced to make the lyrics and the overall vibe more exciting.
Ireh: This song and “Zombie” were both considered for lead single when we were working on our second mini album. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of that time is how hard it was to make that choice. You will see when you listen to the song that it is unique and captivating. It is so incredibly catchy that I kept thinking about it after just a few listens and was singing “DA DA DA DA” as I went about my day.
Yuki: You can hear part of “Pretty Psycho” in the intro performance video for our second mini album. No one could have guessed that intro performance song would end up on this album in full! I hope people listen closely to the lyrics—they’re a little out there and unusual!
Chaein: We have actually been working on “Pretty Psycho” since our previous album, so it has gone through many changes. I was also really looking forward to it. And, personally, I recall the recording atmosphere being very chill. Maybe I felt relaxed in the same way the melody did. (laughs)
SWAN: The track “Pretty Psycho” is a continuation of “Freaky Purky,” which was the intro for HIDE & SEEK, our second album. Like the two titles suggest, they show something pretty but strange about PURPLE KISS and give a taste of our dreamy vocals, which match that image well!
“Upside Down” (Sunwoojunga)
Park Ji Eun: I listened to this song a lot when I was having a hard time, so when I read the lyrics, sometimes I am reminded of back then. I think I was slowly learning the power of music as the song brought me comfort.
“TOMBOY” ((G)I-DLE)
Na Go Eun: I like songs that borrow elements of rock and this song has that plus a really cool performance. I-DLE is so cool!
“908” (Keumbee)
Dosie: If we haven’t got bus fare / Then we will just walk / Even if our hands get clammy / I will never let yours go.
Even if we ate fermented skate, onions, garlic with kimchi / I will still kiss you.
Those are the song lyrics. I could feel the honest and yet simple lyrics clear away what was crowding my mind and made me feel peaceful—even made me want to try something new.
The album this song comes from has covers of songs by Korean indie bands and songs Keumbee wrote herself. Personally, I love the way her voice sounds and the music she makes, so I listen to that album a lot. When I’m done listening to it, I feel like I just finished an amazing book, lying down in a sunny meadow. So I’m recommending this song, because I hope all of you will feel the same way I do!
“Leap of Faith” (Christopher)
Ireh: The chorus—“If you’re praying for a change / You better not wait / Keep turning the pages / There’s choices you make”—gets me moving, so when we have a comeback coming and I have a lot of thoughts in my head, I listen to this song a bunch. I want to recommend this song to anyone facing a new challenge, with the hope that its bright and hopeful outlook will give them the support they need!
“Gone” (Blake Rose)
Yuki: The singer who made this song, Blake Rose, said in an interview, “‘Gone’ is a story of someone who is dealing with the grief of losing the love of their life,” and, “I wanted to express how powerful love can be and how much it can impact the others’ life once they’re gone.” I can really feel their emotions just looking at the lyrics or listening to the song. It is a really sad song, but it is so deep that you feel like you just watched a whole movie after hearing it.
“DRIVE” feat. GRAY (Jay Park)
Chaein: I have always said that I like Jay Park’s songs, but this is one of my favorites. I feel refreshed when I listen to it. It makes me feel good when I hear it, especially when I’m having a rough day, and then I feel like I’m leaving it behind.
“It’s Okay” (BTOB)
SWAN: I listened to this song before I was a trainee, from the time I first considered becoming a singer, whenever I was having trouble. I felt something new when I listened to it after I had debuted with PURPLE KISS and started my career. The lyrics and melody alone are great, but I am moved whenever I hear it because it also reminds me of my past self!
