JUST B is ready to launch into a new world with their second mini album, JUST BEGUN. We asked JUST B for their thoughts on their latest single, “RE=LOAD,” and the music that acted as a springboard for them to soar past their previous limits as they put the finishing touches on the final entry in their RAGE series.

“RE=LOAD” (JUST B)

LIM JIMIN: When I first heard the song, I was really impressed by the guitar in the intro. I thought the song’s whole energy would make it a good song for us to capture the uniquely flashy and dynamic performances of the group. I remember the day I first heard the song, we took a taxi from home to the office and started practicing right away. I can still vividly recall the passion back then. We worked really hard on it, so I am feeling confident about it, and I am both excited and happy to be able to show it off to everyone. We really did work really hard on it, so I hope you all love it and talk about it.

GEONU: “RE=LOAD” is the grand finale of our RAGE series. Because of that, we wanted to capture a very intense energy, both visually and acoustically. To feel that intense energy yourself, I recommend you listen to “RE=LOAD” and watch the performance video as well.

Bain: When I first heard “RE=LOAD,” I couldn’t wait to record it in our own voices. It sounds different compared to some of our other songs, thanks to it being our first time working with PRISMFILTER, which I like. We also tried hard to capture JUST B’s fresh start in the album, and I like that the title, “RE=LOAD,” falls in line with the meaning of the album and seems to express the identity it has. I hope you all enjoy it.

JM: I was actually taking a walk the first time I heard this song. I was out for a walk and saw my reflection in a window and saw I was moving to the rhythm without realizing it. I listened to it over and over. The rap and the melody were catchy and engaging and I thought, I want to hurry up and record this—I want to hurry up and perform this! If you are reading this and want to feel a burning passion inside yourself, I suggest you listen to this song just before taking a walk or when you are working out.

DY: You will see how high-energy “RE=LOAD” is once you hear it. I think you get an even better sense of the high energy when you watch the performance. I still vividly remember how, when I was waiting for the subway and first heard the song, I felt so immersed in it that I felt like I was the main character in a music video.

SANGWOO: I heard “RE=LOAD” for the first time when I was heading over to the practice studio, and once I did it made me want to release all the red-hot emotions boiling up inside me. So I cannot wait to perform it for all of you.

“Lights On” (JUST B)

LIM JIMIN: This is JUST B’s first song for our fans. While we were recording it, I kept thinking about how I hope ONLY B will love it. One part of the lyrics in “Lights On” goes, “Even on a dark path it’s okay, as long as you’re there,” and while we cannot be bright every day of our lives, if ONLY B is there with us, it will be okay, whether things are bright or dark. I kept that in mind while recording the vocals so I was more easily immersed in the feeling. I just cannot wait to sing this song in front of ONLY B. JUST B exists all thanks to ONLY B, after all.

GEONU: I want to say that “Lights On,” the fifth track, is a ray of light that will be a part of my life forever. There are a lot of strong songs in our RAGE series, but this one is relatively soft, so I hope ONLY B remembers it as somewhere they can return to and take a rest as they go on with their lives and all sorts of things happen.

Bain: “Lights On” is a very meaningful song for our group. I have always been determined to try an R&B ballad song, so from the first time I heard the demo I wanted to hurry up and get the vocals recorded so I could hear the final version. When I finally heard it, all of our voices sounded so sweet and mellow, so I want to cherish this song forever.

JM: The first thing I thought of after hearing this song was ONLY B because the melody and lyrics are great, and I kept thinking about ONLY B while recording the vocals. I cannot wait to sing this song with ONLY B there, and when I think of singing it together with them as the closer to a fan meeting or other concert someday, a part of me is completely overwhelmed. Most importantly, it is really meaningful because it is our first fan song.

DY: To give you an idea of what this song is about, the lyrics are about JUST B wanting to give strength to ONLY B, but it also talks about how much JUST B relies on ONLY B. So I hope you feel proud when you listen to it, and think about all the strength you give to the group.

SANGWOO: I see the fifth track, “Lights On,” as like a long-needed, refreshing rain for when your eardrums have had enough of our other, louder songs and need a break. I hope you sit back and enjoy this song because it is the first one we made for fans.

“When I’m Still Getting Over You” feat. Paige (Peder Elias)

LIM JIMIN: I enjoy taking walks and this is always the first song on my playlist when I do. It is a good choice for night walks and an easy listen, so I really hope all of you listen to it, too.

“are you sure?” (Loote)

GEONU: This song will make you want to get on a plane. All the songs off the album lost are like that, actually. I love every single one of them but I will recommend “are you sure?” I do not think I should say any more—you should just listen to it.

“Pretty Hurts” (Beyoncé)

Bain: This song has kept me strong ever since I was a trainee and even now. It is an R&B pop ballad and Beyoncé’s powerful, emotional vocals are absolutely amazing. The lyrics suggest that what matters most is inner beauty and that hearing that fills me with strength, and the way she expresses that it is wrong that you have to suffer for beauty made me think I should be true to myself and use my influence as an artist for good.

“Jenga” feat. Gaeko (Heize)

JM: I listen to this song when I am feeling down sometimes. You should listen to it, too, when it is raining or you are feeling blue. The lyrics are very touching.

“Summer Rain” (Sam Kim)

DY: There is one part in the song where the lyrics say, “You don’t have to hide anything from me, just take a break with me.” I recommend you listen closely to that part; I think you will feel how deep it is. Those lyrics have brought me a lot of comfort and I think the song can give all of you a lot of comfort, too.

“Best Friend” (Peder Elias)

SANGWOO: This song is about falling in love with your best friend. I am not recommending this song for the lyrics, though. It is because I have a good memory of listening to it when I lived on Jeju Island and came out of the shower one night, opened up the window and breathed in the night air.
