HUI of PENTAGON’s first mini album entitled [WHU IS ME : Complex] is his first invitation to the world as a solo artist. He participated in writing all of the tracks to produce music in a wide range of genres including punk, house, and rock. He has set out to prove himself as an artist and producer. Let’s dive into the playlist that embodies HUI’s inspiration and the world of music that is just as colorful as his outfits in the music video for the lead single “Hmm BOP.”
HUI - “Hmm BOP”
HUI: This is a song that is super fun and witty as you can gather from the title, but the lyrics are pretty rebellious. Give this song a listen whenever you feel exhausted and need to shake things up a bit. You’ll get back your “I’ll be true to myself! I’m doing what I like!” mentality in no time.
HUI - “MELO” (Feat. PARK HYEON JIN)
HUI: “MELO” (Feat. PARK HYEON JIN) is reminiscent of drinking an ice cold glass of lemon-lime soda on a beach somewhere in California. Take a dive into this song that’s sweet like marshmallow!
HUI - “Cold Killer” (Feat. Jin Hyuk)
HUI: “Cold Killer” (Feat. Jin Hyuk) is a powerful, energetic song. You’ll get a taste of HUI’s edgy and charismatic vocals. (*One of HUI’s favorites)
HUI - “A Song From A Dream” (Feat. WOOSEOK)
HUI: This is a melancholy but also energizing song. It sends a hopeful message: “There will be dark times once in a while, but there’s always light at the end of it.” I hope a lot of you get to listen to it!!
ONE OK ROCK - “Wasted Nights”
HUI: This song gave me a lot of inspiration. The chorus that supports the main vocals adds incredible depth and scale, you start to feel hope as soon as you listen to it.
The 1975 - “Somebody Else”
HUI: This is what I listen to when I feel down to feel even gloomier. I do that because my heart feels much lighter after. I’ve been listening to it every so often, for quite a while now.
Han Yo Han - “Fire Flower” (feat. Jo Hyun Ah)
HUI: I’ve worked with Yo Han on a song a while back. I’ve been a huge long-time fan of his. I especially love his guitar solo in this one. I listened to this so many times that I learned it by heart, from the lyrics and the melody, down to all the ad-libbing peppered throughout.
The Score - “Good To Be Alive”
HUI: This is a magical song. The moment you hear it you feel like you’ve become this awesome person. I play it sometimes, and dance freestyle to it. It’s also one of my favorite workout tracks.
BIGBANG - “Still Life”
HUI: This is single-handedly the most influential piece of music in my entire life. BIGBANG wrote and performed some of my favorite songs, and thanks to them, I was able to nurture my dream of creating music that is just as amazing.
