Before HUENINGKAI became a member of TOMORROW X TOGETHER and made his dreams come true, he was a drummer in elementary school and in a band with his friends in middle school. These days, he’s been meeting musicians in college bands through his series HUENINGKAI Wants to Start a Band, and in a nod to that, here’s a playlist of some of his very favorite rock songs.
5 Seconds of Summer - "Youngblood"
HUENINGKAI: This was the first cover I sang solo, so a lot of thought went into it. I ended up singing this song because I wanted to choose a hard-hitting rock song for the same reason and I thought it would be perfect.
Avril Lavigne - "Sk8er Boi"
HUENINGKAI: I loved this song ever since I was young so I wanted to try covering it. It turned out better than I was expecting. It’s one of my favorite covers!
Jonas Brothers - "Play My Music"
HUENINGKAI: I have to try and cover this song someday. Not only do I love the Jonas Brothers, but I’ve been in love with this song ever since I was little.
Office HIGE DANdism - “Pretender”
HUENINGKAI: I adore this song. In my mind, it was song of the year, 2019. I was in absolute shock when I first heard it, in a good way. Don’t sleep on this one.
Oasis - “Don’t Look Back In Anger”
HUENINGKAI: Everyone who loves rock knows this one. It’s a classic for all occasions. I always have it in the rotation.
DNCE - “Truthfully”
HUENINGKAI: I listened to this song all the time back when I was a trainee, and the gentle melody and vocals are so good that I still listen to it, even now.

HUENINGKAI: I love the intro to this song and the way the melody sounds melancholy and hopeful at the same time. After I heard the backstory, I liked the song even more!
