Seven years

Ironmouse

I'm surprised that I reached seven years. I didn't think that I would ever make it that long. It started off as a hobby. I first started because I wanted to make friends and talk to people. So I didn't expect things to turn out this way. I really didn't expect to make it to seven years, but I'm just really grateful and thankful to my community for supporting me for so long. I'm happy because I love VTubing and it has become my passion. The thing that motivates me the most is my community, and I just get inspired by my community and my friends. I want to keep going.

When I'm Ironmouse, I really want to be a better version of myself. I feel like I'm a bit more confident and can do more things. But also when I'm on stream, I still am myself. I have a backstory of my character, but I still act and talk about myself as me. I don't mind talking about myself as a person. I usually talk about my heritage, which is, I am Latina, I am from Puerto Rico, because I feel like it's something that defines me. I don't mind expressing myself and talking about my culture and my heritage on stream instead of just being like a demon. I usually try to incorporate my heritage as much as possible in my content and my persona.

When I was thinking about a persona for me, I always wanted to choose my persona as angel-demon themes. That also represents me and fits me a lot. I've always had a fascination with angels and demons. They're very mysterious and cool. I really like brainstorming stories and ideas. So I love coming up with new lore for my character and having a storyline for each music video to make things more interesting.

Oh, it's important to think about what's fun for the community and what's fun for people that enjoy my content, but also what's fun for myself too. Because if I don't have fun doing what I'm doing, that's going to translate into what I'm doing. And I feel like if I don't have fun, then the people that watch me and the people that enjoy my content won't have fun either. So I feel like that's very important and I take that into consideration a lot, because I just really want to do and make fun stuff that people will enjoy watching. And I just want to give people a good time. I know it can be challenging, but it's fun. I really like to put together events and plan new and different things. I always want to do something different. It's the fact that I like trying new things that helps to drive me to do different stuff each time, because I really want to test out and see what I like to do and what makes me happy. And I feel like every event that I do and every special thing that I do, I could figure out new and different sides of myself.

I didn't sing for a long time because of my condition, and for a while I didn't think that I would be able to go back to singing opera again, because singing takes a lot from a person. But I feel like opera is a whole different way of singing. It requires more breath control and more control of your vocal cords, and I didn't think that I had that control anymore. But thankfully it was always there, it never left. I just needed more practice, because I was out of practice. It helped me a lot to sing again, because when I was studying to sing opera, I learned a lot of breathing techniques to help me to hold notes longer. Even though I feel like I've lost it a little bit, my control with my vibrato and my breathing is stable to the point where it helps me a lot with pop music. And I think it's helped me sing at a lower tone, because I used to have issues where I could only sing high songs all the time and I could never sing low. But now, using my operatic techniques, I can actually reach a lower vocal range than I used to. And I'm really happy about that, because I like singing in a lower register, too. When I did a cover song, I wanted to honor the song, pay homage to it. I also wanted to add something or change it slightly so that it was more like my own, and put a different spin on the song, so people could see a different version of it. So I thought, “Oh well. I could do this song, and I'll just add operatic singing, like me singing opera underneath the main vocals.” And I thought that it just sounded so different and I really enjoyed that. I always found that very fun to do, but it's always about trying to create something different that no one has heard before. Music is like my passion too. So, VTubing and music.

It's been an honor. Honestly, I still can't believe that I won an award at the Game Awards, and it's just really nice to be able to bring more attention to VTubing. I feel very honored and very happy, because I just want to bring more. I want people to know more about VTubers and VTubing. VTubing has become such a passion for me, and that's why I'm doing the VTuber Academy. I just really want to give the opportunity to try out VTubing to somebody who didn't necessarily think about ever doing or trying it out for themselves.

VTubing gave me back my life. VTubing is very important to me, because it gave me back so many things that I’d felt like I’d lost. It gave me back my health, dreams, hopes, and aspirations. It gave me back my social life. I made a lot of friends through VTubing, and it also gave me a career. So I owe so much to VTubing. It's done so much for me, and I really do feel more alive now. One of the biggest things that means the most to me is that I'm able to take care of my family. I take care of my parents, and it was something that I always wanted to do, because they've done so much for me in my life and they took care of me so much. Now I can take care of them, and I think that's one of the most rewarding things and one of the best things that VTubing has ever given to me.

My fans mean so much to me. They're very important to me, because honestly, if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be here, I wouldn't be doing this, we wouldn't be having this interview, and I wouldn't be a VTuber. It's because of them that my life changed so drastically. So I'm very thankful to them and they mean a lot to me. We've been through a lot together as a community, and we've been enjoying each other’s company. They've been able to see me grow as much as I've been able to see them grow as a community. So it really does sometimes feel like we are family, even though it's a lot to call somebody your family. But that's how I feel sometimes, because they've been there for me through a lot, and I hope that I could be there for them too, as much as they were there for me.
