Introduction
Ichijou Ririka
Kawaii, positive, and genius! I’m hololive DEV_IS group ReGLOSS member Ichijou Ririka! I’m one of the VTubers in ReGLOSS, a five-member group under hololive DEV_IS, new from hololive production! ReGLOSS has a song and dance theme, under which we’re going to show viewers how we try new things and grow in a way that’s different from existing hololive groups! Since the members in our group all have such strong personalities, I’ve heard some people say ReGLOSS is like a comedy group(laughs) but we’re working and practicing hard every day so we can become outstanding singers! Also, uh, I’m a hardcore otaku gamer girl … I have a good time even when I’m dealing with confidence issues about dancing!
Goals
Ichijou Ririka
One of my goals as a member of ReGLOSS is to perform with them on a big stage. Personally, I have this big dream of going on a world tour to spread music and laughter to people everywhere, but we’ll start with online concerts, then offline ones … and I hope we can gradually build up to putting on a big concert. I want to give audiences the kind of rare experiences you can only have at a live show and nowhere else! Since the concept behind DEV_IS is to try new things and grow, I want to use our live performances as a way to show clearly exactly how much ReGLOSS has grown.
Singing
Ichijou Ririka
When I’m choosing a solo song, it’s largely my decision, so I pick something that suits my voice or something I like, whereas for group songs, which of course are for all five of us, we end up choosing something that’ll sound great when we’re all singing together! I’m roughly in the middle of ReGLOSS when it comes to vocal register—Ao’s lower, and Hajime and Kanade are higher—and because of that, I haven’t had much trouble, but … if I had to choose, I’d say I’m ultimately on the lower side of the group, so I take on the lower parts of the melodies a lot, and that’s been a great form of training! It feels great when I can hit notes I couldn’t before. I’ve been doing vocal training since before we debuted, so not only has my range expanded, but I’d say I’ve gotten a lot better at expressing nuance, too! For the record, we talk with each other about how we feel about our group songs, but generally speaking, we only get to hear all our voices combined after we’ve recorded our vocals separately and they’ve been mixed together, so we don’t generally practice together. We tried practicing vocals all five of us together for the first time recently while working on a 3D performance recently, and it was way more fun and embarrassing seeing everyone’s strengths and weaknesses than we expected …!
ReGLOSS
Ichijou Ririka
We feel like more than just people who work together now. We’re starting to feel like a family. Everyone in ReGLOSS is so pure and well-mannered—like the world hasn’t gotten to them yet … We do have disagreements, but we try to sort them out on the spot so that there’s no hurt feelings, so it’s no big deal. I just want us to keep being able to tell each other anything like family and to grow together as group members.
Mane-chan
Ichijou Ririka
I’m a pretty easygoing person, so I’m like friends with my manager. I like people who get their thoughts across directly more than those who are always worrying about what I think of them, which I think is why they gave me a manager who’s basically like a mom. I hate to admit it, but even though I’m a CEO, I’m pretty childish compared to my age…💦 so I end up saying things carelessly without thinking it over, and take advantage of people’s kindness by asking them favors that are too big … I might look like your older sister, but I’m actually quite a handful—though people who’ve seen a lot of me are more than aware of that, I’m sure! (laughs) Mane-chan [a pet name meaning “manager”] is always saying, “Stop! Stop!” to reel me in. Sometimes she’s even there putting the pressure on when I’m streaming—like, I’m watching you! Oh, and since I have a terrible sense of direction, she sometimes has to run around looking for me… Sorry! But Mane-chan isn’t just strict—she always fully supports my work. She’s absolutely precious to me!
Limited meals: the art of genkai meshi
You’ve prepared some bizarre dishes, like uni made with pudding, takoyaki ramen, and rice-less fried rice by frying uncooked noodles, documented the process, and then shared the whole thing with explanations.
Ichijou Ririka
Bizarre dishes?! (laughs) That’s not what I was going for! (laughs) I actually came up with the phrase “limited meal” [meaning a low-effort meal you can make when your time and energy are limited] because it’s easy for people to remember, but there’s nothing weird about them to me—they’re just regular, easy meals…! I never expected the response I got when I put that out into the world …! I was like, Seriously? Are they really that shocked?! But I absolutely try making food I wouldn’t normally eat, too. You require food to live, obviously, so I thought it would be an easily relatable concept that would bring people closer. In that sense, I’m glad I found a topic that I can have fun talking about, even if I’m not good at cooking! Oh! And it’s not that I can’t cook, it’s just that I’m just not that used to it! I want to keep trying to make all kinds of different things!
Hardcore otaku gamer girl
Ichijou Ririka
I’ve loved gaming ever since I was a little kid! We lived overseas because of my dad’s job, and when you’re looking for Japanese content there, you inevitably come across things like anime, manga, and Japanese games. Otaku stuff, in other words. It’s something I always liked, so I ended up completely absorbed in it, and it became a huge part of my life. I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that I learned everything I need to know about life from games. I’m sure there’s people reading this who feel the same way! (laughs) There’s always going to be comments catching my eye when I’m streaming, which sometimes makes me lose focus on what I’m doing, but as I want to be serious about gaming, I jot down important things where possible and then try to read them carefully later so I won’t lose my immersion in the games! I’m also anti-spoilers, and since everyone is considerate enough to avoid them for me, I can still look at the comments and have a good time while I’m gaming! There’s still lots of games out there I’m curious to try and lots more will keep coming out, so I’m looking forward to sharing the experience with my viewers as they watch me play this and that on stream.
Fans
Ichijou Ririka
I was streaming like crazy when I first debuted, but I also set a ceiling on what I would do because I thought there was a limit to what I was capable of. For example, I used to feel reluctant about trying games on stream if I assumed they’d be too hard for me to beat. But I realize now that I can push past those hurdles to make streaming fun and show people what’s exciting about me…! That was a hugely important lesson for me! Even when I’m holding myself back because I’m worried something might be too hard, [my fandom] Hishominarai is always there to support me, and with their kindness as my motivation, I hope I can keep pushing past those hurdles! They’re the most important thing in my life now. Without Hishominarai, there would be no Ichijou Ririka. I’ll continue to cherish each and every one of them and I’ll never stop being thankful for them as I keep moving forward!
