EVERGLOW has started its voyage to become a fleet and go out and watch the night together. EVERGLOW is back with Return of the Girl, their third mini album, and we asked them for their thoughts on the lead single, “Pirate,” along with what music the girls-turned-pirates would want to bring along with them to the day’s festival.

“Pirate” (EVERGLOW)

E:U: I think the concept of “Pirate,” the lead single off EVERGLOW’s third mini album, really lives up to its name. Not only do the pop and EDM complement each other to give the song a unique flair, but the thumping drum gets your body moving up and down. EVERGLOW made this song sound cool with each of our distinct voices, so I hope you really enjoy it! It comes with one of EVERGLOW’s patented impressive performances, so you can enjoy it with your ears and eyes. I think it’s best to listen to it while watching the performance, too.

SIHYEON: The members of EVERGLOW transformed into pirates to bring you “Pirate,” a song with an original performance, rhythmic rapping and impressive vocals. You’ll get to experience the unique allure of each of our six members all at the same time. It’s the kind of song where you’ll start dancing involuntarily if you listen to it, so I hope you enjoy it. And you can’t miss the music video where we transform into space pirates! It’s a really cool video, set to the backdrop of space, and featuring a passionate performance and EVERGLOW’s unique aesthetic.

MIA: You can feel the excitement in “Pirate” and EVERGLOW’s unique take on pirates. The beat is powerful and harmonizes with EVERGLOW’s lovely vocals, so it’s a good listen anytime, other than when you’re trying to chill at night. If I were you, I’m pretty sure I’d definitely sing it at karaoke with my friends. This song is so upbeat that even when I listen to it alone the spirit of dance comes to me and makes my body move. When you’re home alone and want to just dance, put on “Pirate”—it’ll turn you into a dancer. There’s a lot of fun lines in the lyrics if you pay attention to them, too. As we say in the song, come enjoy our unique festival.

ONDA: When I first heard the song, even the lyrics were really catchy to me! If you listen to the lyrics, we’re really full of spirit and determined to get on an ark we built together to put on a festival. So I’m sure those who listen to it will overflow with confidence in their everyday life. Let EVERGLOW’s radiant energy give you strength!

YIREN: I’m pretty sure this song’s just like me—the more you hear it, the more you’ll fall in love. In other words, it’s a very addictive song. If you listen to it when you start your day, it might just invigorate you. That’s why I listen to it every morning lately—to feel energetic all day.

AISHA: I personally and confidently recommend this song. When I first heard the demo for “Pirate” and started recording my vocals, I was already entirely won over by its charms. That’s how sure I am about how incredibly catchy it is. If you listen to the song when you’re having a rough day or feeling irritable, it’ll melt your stress away, then put a dance in your heart that will eventually make its way out and … Anyway, we all had fun with the festive mood while working on the album from its inception. I hope the song brightens your day.

“You Don’t Know Me” (EVERGLOW)

E:U: The song has a different melody and performance than what usually comes to mind when people think of EVERGLOW. MIA’s cheerful vocals take center stage as soon as the song starts. And AISHA’s rapping is my favorite part of the song. I think her attractive, somewhat deep voice is the highlight of the whole song. I think people should listen to this song when they want to hear something new and lively. And also check out our lively performance of “You Don’t Know Me” that goes along with the song.

SIHYEON: This song is sweet and very different from our lead singles, and it’ll make your heart soar when you hear it. Thanks to sounding like a song from a musical, we were able to show off EVERGLOW’s variety of musical chops.

MIA: You can tell it’s a really cheerful and exciting song as soon as you hear it. And the lyrics about someone’s world changing after meeting someone else are too cute. When I first heard the song, I thought, Can I really do this song justice? I was a little worried whether I could pull off something so dynamic, like the sudden changes in tempo and even in the mood of the song itself. But I think all those twists make the song way more enjoyable. It really gives a good sense of the breadth of our voices and auras, so please give it a listen.

ONDA: This song comes from our second album. I really love it. It feels like you’re suddenly in the middle of an amazing, refreshing summer just by listening to it. It’s got its own bouncy sound, a bright melody and sweet lyrics. The lyrics mean exactly what I want to say to FOREVER—I want to know you, and you make my world colorful—so I recommend it all the more!

YIREN: There’s no mistaking the sweet and cheerful vibe of “You Don’t Know Me.” It's a little bit out of place right now, since it’s cold, but if you listen to this song while taking a drive in the summer, you’ll really get to experience that refreshing feeling.

AISHA: This was the first light and lively summer song we tried doing. We went really hard on “Adios.” I wanted to show FOREVER that we have this side to us, too. You can feel the cool breeze like it’s there if you listen to the song in the summer, and if you listen to it in the cold weather we’ve got lately when you’re feeling down, it can change your mood for a minute. Hope you stay with EVERGLOW all year round. ❤️

“Therapist” (Mae Muller)

E:U: I became enchanted with Mae Muller’s voice. After I discovered this song, I kept coming back to it over and over. The more I listened to it, the more I wanted to know what the lyrics meant, too. If you analyze them on a surface level, it seems like the song’s just about lovers, but then I thought it’s a song about wanting to say something to someone who sees the world in a negative light. Sometimes I have positive and negative thoughts at the same time, and it feels like the song makes me realize whenever I’m doing that, so I wanted to recommend it. If you listen to it, you’ll fall in love with Mae Muller’s amazing voice just like I did.

“Pied Piper” (BTS)

SIHYEON: My personal recommendation is “Pied Piper” by BTS. The melody’s so good that I fell in love with it the first time I heard it, and I’m sure everyone’s already heard it before, but the flute in the background is great. I listen to it all the time—put in my AirPods and listen. So I wanted to recommend it.

“Don’t Teach Me” (Ailee)

MIA: I’m recommending “Don’t Teach Me” by Ailee! I was really bowled over when she sings, “I live my way.” I heard it as a way of saying, I’m nobody’s property and I love the way I am, not changing myself for anybody. Some people lose who they are when they’re in love—I want them to listen to the song. I came to realize that while it’s important to love others, it’s also important to love and respect yourself. I’d like people who are in love now but also people who are looking to fall in love to please give it a listen!

“Rain on Me” (Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande)

ONDA: The song’s beat and overall sound are exciting, so the first time I heard it, I thought it was just an exciting song. But in reality, the song’s saying, Even if something is giving me a hard time, I’m going to accept this challenge and tackle it head-on! This is a song I really want to recommend because it gives me energy when I’m having a hard time. I hope this song gives a lot of people the courage to overcome their problems.

“Remind You” (Christopher)

YIREN: This song’s part of my daily routine. I always listen to it whenever I’m going to the next place I need to be and at the end of the day. After I listen to it, I feel free and easy. As with everything, the beginning is always important, and I liked this song as soon as I heard it because it grabs you right from the beginning. Make sure to check it out, everybody.

“Antifreeze” (Yerin Baek)

AISHA: Whenever I listen to this song on my way to work in the morning, it makes me feel like my day’s going to be a little brighter. It's the kind of song that can give you peace of mind and put you at ease in the morning, but also before falling asleep. You can wrap up your day and feel excited for the next one simultaneously.
