Already known for singing their dreams out with unfettered passion, these two girls are taking another first step with each other—and with total faith in one another. Their recently released first single album, Copycat, hits you with wave after wave of emotional firsts and anticipation. We asked CHOBOM, excited to show us their never-before-seen musical world, about their album and the music of old that makes them feel nostalgic.
“Copycat” (CHOBOM)
ChoRong: Before we ever got the CHOBOM songs, I said I wanted to do a song that was more about being fun to listen to than one that revolved around its performance. “Copycat” has an upbeat melody but there’s also something indescribable about it. I think that’s exactly what we were looking for. It’s more than just a fun summer song, it’s also an exciting way of showing off what makes CHOBOM unique and appealing. The song itself is great, but our performance turned out great, too, so I hope everyone watches it!
BoMi: When ChoRong and I were talking, we said we wanted to do a distinct and indescribable song. The first time I heard “Copycat,” I thought, That’s it! Best of all, I think it’s a great choice for showing off what makes CHOBOM, CHOBOM. Easy-going and fresh, but beneath that, a kind of cool maturity? It’s a bit hard to explain, but that’s what we were going for. I hope you like it!
“Oscar” (CHOBOM)
ChoRong: In some ways I feel like “Oscar” is sort of the opposite of “Copycat.” This song’s got a really catchy hook. I really wanted to try this one since we’ve never done a song like this before!
BoMi: I think this song is the most unique on the album and also the catchiest. It sounds so hip, and it feels like a song from a movie. I hope you like it.
“Feel Something” (CHOBOM)
ChoRong: I really wanted to do a song like “Feel Something.” This is the kind of song I thought about doing whenever I thought of performing as CHOBOM and with PANDA. I can imagine feeling so free and performing it while making eye contact with them! That’s basically what I was thinking about while recording the song.
BoMi: You’ll feel better as soon as you listen to “Feel Something.” It even makes me feel good and comforted to sing it, too. I just smiled when I heard the demo version. It made me want to take a drive. After I saw the lyrics, I realized it’s the kind of song I want to put on for fans as well as people in their 20s who are just getting started in the exhausting real world and having a hard time.
“FREEDOM” (Jon Batiste)
ChoRong: I’ve been really into this song for a while so I listen to it all the time. It makes me feel relaxed and puts me in a good mood.
“Firecrackers and stars” (Kim Jin Ho)
BoMi: This song makes me feel like I’m reading a collection of essays.
“Bad Habits” (Ed Sheeran)
ChoRong: I love Ed Sheeran’s voice so I really pay attention to his songs whenever he puts one out, and this one was different from all the mellow songs he put out previously, which was refreshing. I think there’s something special about listening to such a strong song sung in his voice.
“empty” (WINNER)
BoMi: This song makes me feel good every time I listen to it.
“Crazy AF” (In Real Life)
ChoRong: First of all, I just melt when I hear this song. Their voices are amazing. The way they capture that moment you fall in love is just lovely, and the melody makes me feel great, too.
“One Man” (Kim Jong Kook)
BoMi: I recommend this song for how nostalgic it feels.
