It’s that time of year again when we all reflect on the past 12 months in our own way. For our part, Weverse Magazine will be taking a look back at how different artists and their tireless staff spent 2022 with fans. We’ll be publishing articles for three weeks as the members of the staffs behind BTS, SEVENTEEN, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, ENHYPEN, fromis_9 and LE SSERAFIM select their favorite music, videos, performances and other MOMENTs from working with the artists they support. This week we take a look at some of the original content these six groups have released. For this fourth part, we talk to Ryu Song Hui and Do Sin Jung with the Original Contents 2 Studio behind EN-O’CLOCK to tell us all about SO SO FUN EP. 3.

Why SO SO FUN EP. 3 is ENHYPEN’s best episode the year
Ryu Song Hui, Do Sin Jung (Original Contents 2 Studio): The members of ENHYPEN spent a lot of time together once they debuted but they never had a chance to take a trip all together for fun. We wanted to make SO SO FUN so we could show the members taking their first trip together. Among the series, the third episode in particular shows them doing things they like, like fishing and going for a walk, so their characters and personalities really shine. The scene where they play rock paper scissors furiously to avoid having to do the dishes was particularly good. It shows every time we shoot, but the members are always really serious about rock paper scissors. (laughs) I hope people enjoy watching the way the series shows the real ENHYPEN and helps them see the kind of people the members are.

Their first trip
Ryu Song Hui, Do Sin Jung: The most important part this time was to help the members have a real vacation. We wanted the members to be free to enjoy their first trip. So before we left, we asked the members what they wanted to do and did our best to make that happen and left it up to them to do decide what to do once we got there. We listened to them and chose somewhere they could fish and do other activities. JAKE said that he fished almost every day when he lived in Australia and that his dad taught him how to make hwe, so fishing was a must from the start. SUNOO and NI-KI said they wanted to do outdoor activities and JUNGWON and SUNGHOON said, “We’re good with anything as long as all the other members are there.” In reality, Ssogariz did a whole lot of fishing (laughs) and JUNGWON took a number of walks. He even said he took a walk by himself after the camera was off to go look at the stars. When JAY was packing the day before the trip, he said, “These guys wouldn’t eat a proper meal if I wasn’t there. They’d eat instant ramyeon and nothing else.” He checked what ingredients there were at the pension in advance and went out and bought a block of curry from the supermarket himself. Even though he was on vacation, he still worked really hard and put everything he had into making meals for the members for three days.

“I Heard a Rumor”: The soundtrack to SO SO FUN
Ryu Song Hui, Do Sin Jung: We had to catch the train early, so everyone was half asleep at the beginning of the trip. We suggested they turn on some music to liven things up and suddenly “I Heard a Rumor” started playing. (laughs) We were like, “What the heck’s going on?” We never expected ENHYPEN to have that song in their library and you could tell how much it perked them up just by watching them. But then it was nonstop for three days. (laughs) It was amazing to see them singing the song in the karaoke scene since we never saw them sing it on EN-O’CLOCK even once. We realized this is how they act when it’s just them around. Anyway, the series opens with “I Heard a Rumor” and it closes with “I Heard a Rumor”! (laughs)
How did things go from party to work dinner?
Ryu Song Hui, Do Sin Jung: Them all wearing suits was absolutely not our idea. (laughs) When we had a meeting before the trip, we asked them how they’d feel about a pajama party or sitting around a campfire and JAY said that he wanted them to wear suits and have a classy party. But we didn’t think they’d really wear suits at a vacation home. (laughs) JAY and HEESEUNG even brought suits from their own wardrobe. HEESEUNG’s was the same suit he had made in his vlog—his very first bespoke suit. But it’s hard to make things feel like a party when you’re at a vacation home and sitting around on the floor and eating dinner. JAY later said “you’re supposed to stand at a party” but that it ended up becoming like a work dinner. (laughs) But the karaoke scene ended up being really fun thanks to the suits. It’s exactly as you would expect from a K-work dinner. When you go to karaoke with close friends and they’re singing, naturally you spend that time looking for the song you’re going to sing next. Whenever one of them was singing and dancing, the other members were right next to them furiously searching for the songs they wanted to sing. It was hilarious to be right there watching it all unfold. We saw HEESEUNG told his fans on Weverse Live that he wanted them to forget that day ever happened. Even when filming the next episode of EN-O’CLOCK, he said he didn’t recognize the HEESEUNG in SO SO FUN and asked us to forget we ever saw it. (laughs)

“SO SO FUN!”
Ryu Song Hui, Do Sin Jung: When HEESEUNG was making an acrostic poem for the word “ssogari” and said, “so so fun,” the producers there immediately said, “Oh, that’s it!” It was a fun, simple trip, and I thought it would be more meaningful to name it after something HEESEUNG thought of since it was their first vacation together. The poem spawned the show title and this show also gave birth to the unit name Ssogariz, so we were proud to be there and had a lot of fun. Sadly, the members didn’t see a single ssogari swim by. They fished up until the very last minute, and even in the car on the way back they couldn’t shake the feeling, saying there could be another fishing spot. When we were first making plans for the trip, we envisioned it as a trip overflowing with emotion, but it ended up more like a field trip or company retreat. (laughs) It’s like it all started on the train with “I Heard a Rumor.” (laughs)
