These days, just as the sun is beating down and has us itching to travel, fromis_9 has returned with their fifth mini album, from our Memento Box. fromis_9 breaks down the summery “Stay This Way,” which is their energetic, upbeat lead single that follows the rhythms of the heart, and songs they want to present to their fans as a gift for always being there by their side.

“Stay This Way” (fromis_9)

Saerom: You know that fromis_9 owns summer, right? The song feels like a perfect harmony of summer and us and ups the appeal of both. I suggest you go listen to it right now!

Hayoung: This song makes me think of hot summers spent in the cool breeze by the ocean. It’s hard to take a break with life in the way, but this song is like its own vacation! Hmm … I wonder how people feel about taking a spontaneous trip? I guess everyone must feel differently about it, just like everyone has a different MBTI. But I hope we can all get the same thing out of the song when we listen to it regardless of our preferences. I hope it makes people feel the same sense of excitement that they felt the last time they watched a romantic movie and helps them hold onto that.

Gyuri: I think this song is a good fit as we get some of our everyday freedom back. It’s a summer song that gets me excited every time I listen to it. The lyrics are beautiful, too. flover always say our songs are somewhat sentimental, and I think this one fits that description, too! The song is so loaded with charm that you can’t get sick of it even if you listen to it over and over. I think people will want to keep listening to it again and again.

Jiwon: I think this is the perfect summer song. If you listen to it in the stuffy, muggy weather, you’ll feel cooled to your core. It’s like taking a sip of a refreshing soda, in other words. Pay attention to the lyrics while you’re listening and you’ll see an image of people dancing to the sound of waves under the moonlight unfold in your mind as fireworks go off all around after the sun goes down.

Jisun: This is the perfect summer song. :) It’s the kind of song that stirs up memories or fills your head with images. It’s exciting for me as one of the people who sings it and is putting it out into the world, but I think anyone who listens to it will feel just as excited. That’s why I’m recommending it.

Chaeyoung: I love the way “Stay This Way” makes you feel like it’s definitely summer. I think now’s a good time for all of us to listen to it together. (laughs)

Seoyeon: Whether you’re hot in the summer and want to cool down, looking to go out somewhere, out taking a drive or planning a full vacation, this is the song I recommend for you! You can listen to it on all kinds of small occasions and it’ll really boost your mood!

Nagyung: If you’re not sure what season it is, listen to our single “Stay This Way” and you’ll know right away! It’s the perfect fit for summer.

Jiheon: I think “Stay This Way” is just like the feeling you get around four or five in the afternoon in summer, right before sunset. The last chorus, especially, should help you to cool down during summer.

“Rewind” (fromis_9)

Saerom: I think this is the most marvelous song on our new album. You can really feel all the energy that the ad-libbing we all do toward the end adds. If you think about the feel of the song, it really fits the rainy spell we’re having.

Hayoung: This song feels deep as a black hole. It stays in your head once you hear it and you’ll never get tired of listening to it. I think Seoyeon’s voice in the opening will really draw people in. The song goes on from there into a fun, mystical vibe. You’ll want to listen to it on repeat.

Gyuri: This is my favorite song on the whole album! I tried really hard while recording to get the vibe just right. I love it all the more for how hard I worked on it. It also shows off a new side of the group. It’s a girl crush song and I think it’s good for summer.

Jiwon: This song has a charm all its own, totally different from the lead single! It sounds dreamy and it’s a perfect match for our vocals. (laughs)

Jisun: This song is over the top! I’m recommending it because the way the song unfolds for the listener is so intriguing. I really hope people read the lyrics, too. They’re a lot more sentimental and touching than you might think, so I hope people read along as they listen. It felt like a scene out of Doctor Strange to me, one with Wanda in it—maybe because I saw the movie around that time? (laughs) I hope people will picture some scene in their minds while listening to the song and immerse themselves in that!

Chaeyoung: “Rewind” tells the story of someone who turns back time to have a perfect ending with the one they love. The subject matter itself is really unique and I liked that. And I actually haven’t done too many songs in this style, so I worked especially hard to record it. (laughs) So I’m really attached to this song and I hope people show it a lot of love!

Seoyeon: Feel free to sit in front of a fan with your hair flying and work on your facial expressions while listening to this song! You’ll give yourself a self-esteem boost and feel a lot better. Recommended! 👍

Nagyung: This song’s got a different feeling from “Stay This Way,” the lead single. You’ll get a sense of how mature we’ve become. It’s a great song.

Jiheon: This song has a different vibe from our single, “Stay This Way,” so you’ll see a different side to fromis_9!

“Driving to Hawaii” (Summer Salt)

Saerom: I end up going back to this band’s songs every summer. This song feels like it’s handing me a moment to relax even when I’m exhausted from the heat.

“Slow” (SOLE)

Hayoung: Whenever I have a lot of work I need to get done and I’m so far behind that the impatience I feel from being so disorganized gets me depressed, or I feel overworked and trapped, this is the song I go to to find comfort. It’s helped me a lot! I hope everyone who listens to this song finds comfort in it the way I have and that they can listen to it without a care in the world.

“It was me” (Yerin Baek)

Gyuri: I’ve said over and over that I’m a Yerin Baek fan, and her latest album is just my style! I love the way she has this mysterious feeling about her where she’s upbeat and dark at the same time. I really relate to the lyrics of “It was me” especially so I listen to it a lot.

“Grapejuice” (Harry Styles)

Jiwon: This song has that unique laid-back, retro feeling of every Harry Styles song. I especially love the whispering in the intro. Every one of his albums has a song named after a fruit and I added this one to one of my playlists as soon as I saw the title. It made me feel sort of happy, as a Harry Styles fan. Every single one of the songs on his new album is good, but you can really clear your head while listening to this one—that’s how easy-listening it is. That’s why I wanted to recommend it to flover.

“All I Want Is You” (Johnny Stimson)

Jisun: I always listened to this artist, but I've been obsessed with him ever since the Seoul Jazz Festival. :) That happy, easy feeling really stuck with me, so I looked up more of his songs and listened to them, and this one brings me peace even when my mind’s tangled up with thoughts, so I’m recommending it to flover. They set my soul on fire, just like the lyrics say! :) Thank you, flover, for always keeping me going!

“Trivia 轉: Seesaw” (BTS)

Chaeyoung: The lyrics really make me think a lot about the relationships people have throughout their lives. They’re about how there’s not that much good or happiness in the world and the song really stays with you for that reason.

“I don’t miss u” (BUMZU)

Seoyeon: I used to listen to this song a lot, but lately I fall asleep in the car a lot while listening to it. It’s a calm song, and it calms me down.

“VOICE” (STANDING EGG)

Nagyung: I’m recommending this to flover because of how amazing the melody is.

“Your Existence” (Wonstein)

Jiheon: This is a good song to listen to in the cool breeze of an early summer night. It leaves you no choice but to surrender to the way it massages your memories into tender feelings.
