VERNON frequently shares his diverse taste in movies, music, TV shows and even memes with CARAT. He’s so interested in film that he said in a Mindset interview that his love of movies likely would have led him to pursue a career as a translator had he gone to university just so that he could get advance previews. VERNON also previously told Weverse Magazine that he has “enjoyed all kinds of videos since I was young, including movies and documentaries and animated films.” This time, we asked the idol for some recommendations to share with CARAT.

The Matrix

VERNON: This was probably the first sci-fi movie of my life. My mom likes sci-fi and I inherited that love of it from her. There’s a really memorable line from Morpheus: “Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.”

Billy Elliot
VERNON: The video tape of this movie ruled my childhood, along with The Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It’s about a boy in a coal town in England who dreams of being a ballet dancer. Whenever I think of Billy Elliot, “Cosmic Dancer” by T. Rex automatically starts playing in my head.
Fantastic Mr. Fox
VERNON: This is a stop motion animated film based on a story by Roald Dahl. This movie was the first time I ever saw such symmetrical and straightforward cinematography, and even though I thought it was awkward, I was fascinated by how original it felt at the same time. I took a bus to Sangam World Cup Stadium and met my friend at a movie theater next to it and we watched it together.

Paprika
VERNON: Someone who used to work at my parents’ English academy told me about this one. It’s an animated sci-fi mystery. The peculiar eccentricity of this one forever remains in my elementary schooler memory, so I come back to it from time to time.
Love, Death & Robots
VERNON: This is an animated sci-fi anthology series. I first saw it when a friend of mine showed it to me in the studio. Every episode has its own polished style with a unique story to draw you in.
Everything Everywhere All at Once
VERNON: If you watch this, your brain will burst into confetti. Each and every piece reflects back a universe of possibilities in my shortcomings. Let’s be kind. Let’s love each other. Right away.
