Kim Geon-hee and Seo Whi-min, who have been competing and winning in several domestic short-track events as well as international events organized by the International Skating Union (ISU), are leading a life as a short-track speed skater and a CARAT at the same time. Here are SEVENTEEN’s songs that have inspired the two skaters who bring joy and excitement with their spectacular runs on the ice.
SEVENTEEN – “DON QUIXOTE”
Kim Geon-hee: I love upbeat songs and I need to be energized to perform better. This song helps me focus on myself and not worry about all the comments, stares, pressure, and stress before a race. It’s a song that gives me the confidence to believe in myself and give everything I’ve got.
SEVENTEEN – “Anyone”
Seo Whi-min: I was first introduced to SEVENTEEN by my sister. She recommended “[SPECIAL VIDEO] SEVENTEEN - Anyone,” which was filmed at a race circuit. I started fangirling over SEVENTEEN because I like racing suits and also because I was impressed by how their choreography was perfectly synchronized despite the large number of members. This is my stan song and I recommend it.
SEVENTEEN – “March”
Kim Geon-hee: “The world is my playground.” It’s the song that best describes my personality as an athlete. The short-track skating is the most intense part of my life. Still, the most important thing for me is to have fun and this song matches well with that mindset. It’s a song that gives me the confidence to achieve whatever I want.
SEVENTEEN – “Super”
Seo Whi-min: This is usually the first song I listen to on game days. The tempo is fast and the lyrics are confident, which makes me feel “super” just as the title suggests. The constant thump from my earphones adds a sense of grandeur to the arena. This song helps me skate confidently without being nervous, so it’s one of my favorite songs to listen to during competitions.
SEVENTEEN – “Rock with you”
Kim Geon-hee: This is my ultimate favorite song. It’s the song that gives me the strength to keep going one step further and to push past my limits whenever I feel exhausted. I find comfort during the hard times and strength during the good times in this one song. So, as long as SEVENTEEN is with me, “Wherever we go, wherever we are, no matter where we are, even if the world is ending, I wanna stay with you.”
SEVENTEEN – “Circles”
Seo Whi-min: When I’m training, there are times when everything goes smoothly and I’m in good shape, but there are definitely times when things don’t go well and I’m in poor condition, too. I feel like this song comforts me during those times, telling me that everything will come full circle. I especially love the part at the end where WOOZI sings by himself. It’s very touching. It feels like he’s giving me a pat on the back and that’s why I like this song.
SEVENTEEN – “Together”
Kim Geon-hee: There aren’t always good days when it comes to the life of an athlete! This song comforts me and gives me the strength to get back on my feet whenever I feel like I’m falling apart and going in circles and even when I’m tired of the same old routine. It’s like SEVENTEEN is cheering me on, telling me that even if I’m faltering for a moment, I’m on the right path.
BSS (SEVENTEEN) – “Fighting” (Feat. Lee Young Ji)
Seo Whi-min: This song is my go-to when I get tired from training and need energy. It feels like BSS is motivating me every time I listen to it. I really liked the song when I first heard it and the choreography wasn’t too difficult, so Geon-hee and I did a reel for the Fighting challenge. HOSHI reposted our reel and left a comment, which gave me a lot of strength. When I listen to this song, I think of that time and it makes me smile.
Kim Geon-hee’s Recommendations: SEVENTEEN – “Healing,” “Run To You,” “Back It Up,” “今 -明日 世界が終わっても- (Ima -Even if the world ends tomorrow-)”
Seo Whi-min’s Recommendations: SEVENTEEN – “Fearless,” “What’s good,” “Yawn,” “HOME;RUN”
