They say it goes, “spring, SEVENTEEN, autumn, winter.” The season of SEVENTEEN is here, so Weverse Magazine asked the members which of the group’s coolest, most refreshing songs they would most like to recommend during their interviews. Listen to their recommended music to cast away the annoying buzz of mosquitoes, sticky sweat and lukewarm drinks, and leave yourself with the pastel skies and the breeze of summer nights.

Pretty U

DK: Wow, we have so many cool, refreshing songs. (laughs) I’ll choose “Pretty U” because I love the melody. I think the refreshing feeling we managed to put in that song was unbelievably pretty.

VERY NICE

S.COUPS: I want to help people keep their ears cool in the summer too. (laughs) This song was physically demanding to sing for the encore at concerts sometimes, but looking back, it made me really happy.

Healing

MINGYU: I still remember how I felt when I first heard the song while running on the beach in Australia.

HOSHI: I just like it. The song’s about taking a break, so it instantly makes me think of the ocean. Like, “Now this is emotional healing!” (laughs)

Holiday

HOSHI: That was a hot summer, but the song was lively so I felt excited when I heard it. I guess because we shot the music video ourselves with camcorders. (laughs) It’s so fun. We’ve got the day off. Let’s do something fun! I’m not working today. What are you up to? You’ll get why I recommended it if you just listen to it.

DINO: I think any day you listen to “Holiday” in the summer becomes a holiday. It’s a nice song to listen to on a sunny day or when you’re out for a drive, too. That part in the chorus, especially—“Take your hand / And go go anywhere”—it’s like saying, When we have a day off, let’s hold hands and just go anywhere; when I’m with you, anywhere’s good. They’ve got no worries so the song feels warm and refreshing. Especially since everyone’s stuck at home right now.

Come to me

WOOZI: I’m thinking about summer, and since it’s summer now, I think I want to listen to this song. I was actually going to choose our new song, “Heaven’s Cloud,” but it goes, “hot coffee in a cup made of clouds,” so that probably wouldn’t work. (laughs)

Our Dawn Is Hotter Than Day

JEONGHAN: I get excited just saying the name of the song. We filmed the choreography video on the cafe rooftop and just thinking about it I already remember how refreshing it felt even though it was summer. So I’m thrilled to recommend this song. I hope all of you can feel the same way, too.

JOSHUA: I love the atmosphere of this song and the feeling I get when I listen to it, and I hope other people feel all their woes wash away when they hear it, too. It’s nice to listen to when you can’t sleep, like late at night? (laughs) It’s a good fit for when it’s raining, too. It’s my favorite song.

JUN:
In Japanese anime, people always have a wind chime in front of their door in the summertime. I don’t know why, but when I hear the ta-ta-la-ta-ta melody, I think of a scene of eating watermelon in the cool outdoor breeze with that sound. So whenever I hear this song in the summer, I always picture taking in the ocean breeze from a slightly open window in my head.

WONWOO:
When you think of summer, you think of passion. Every time I listen to that song, I’m reminded of the emotions I felt after practicing so hard and then seeing the sun come up in the morning. We haven’t practiced that late lately due to how busy we’ve become, but it’s something we saw a lot in the past. The lyrics were written while we were practicing really hard, so they capture our passion. So I think it’s the best song for the summer.

THE 8:
This song makes a hot summer even hotter. It’s also a song that fills your heart with warmth and coziness if you listen to it at night. When I listen to it, it ignites my memories of working and practicing all night with the other members.

MINGYU: I heard “Our Dawn Is Hotter Than Day” at a pretty cafe one night in summer. I can never forget it. It was on the rooftop of the cafe, with pretty lights hung up everywhere. I remember the summer night atmosphere. I liked how it was a little cooler than other hot nights.

SEUNGKWAN: “VERY NICE” probably got a ton of recommendations already, so I’ll go with “Our Dawn Is Hotter Than Day.” (laughs) I didn’t know I’d like it so much when I first heard it, but now whenever I hear it, I think of the summer we sang the song in concert and the time I spent with the other members. It was the summer we went to KCON 2018 LA. We rented a place for about a week and all took a break together. I remember that I couldn’t get over my jet lag, so I slept in the morning when the sun was up, then had fun talking and barbecuing and dancing with the other members at night.

Heaven’s Cloud

JUN: Personally, I liked the song so much that I listened to the rough recording like 30 times. Even though it’s hot at night in summer, I felt like I could feel the cool breeze of an air conditioner when I listened to the song, or like I was going up to heaven in a dream. (laughs) I hope CARAT will have a dream about their own personal fantastic heaven when they listen to it.

GAM3 BO1

VERNON: “Refreshing” makes me think of a fresh, cheerful feeling, but that song is exciting and fun, so it corresponds well, I think. You could call any of SEVENTEEN’s songs fan dedication songs, since they’re all written for CARAT, but that song in particular is about the current situation making it dangerous outside their blankets and telling them to stay inside and meet there instead.
